Coffee is the drink obtained
from an infusion of the
berries and seeds of the
coffee tree. Coffee
cultivation is highly
developed in numerous
tropical countries,
especially in Mexico and
Brazil. Coffee is one of the
main agricultural products
marketed in international
markets, and it is often a
great contribution to the
exports of coffee-producing
regions.
Between 1998 and 2000, the
annual coffee production
totaled 6.7 million tons,
and it is expected to
increase to 7 million tons
in 2010.
The infusion bearing the
same name is produced from
the roasted and ground seed.

The consumption of dark-roasted
or roasted (roasted with
sugar) is frequent in Spain,
Portugal and Costa Rica. It
is usually drunk as
breakfast or after lunch,
and it is one of the most
socializing non-alcoholic
drinks in many countries.
There are as many ways of
brewing coffee as consumers.
But the most popular way,
apart from drinking it black,
is coffee with milk although
it can also be added some
cream, condensed milk,
chocolate or liquor. It is
regularly served hot but it
can also be drunk cold or
iced.
